They possess the power to break barriers, foster unity, and promote social inclusion. Despite these potentials, marginalized youth often face challenges in accessing sports due to socioeconomic, cultural, or physical barriers. This exclusion not only limits their physical and mental well-being but also deprives them of opportunities to develop vital social skills and a sense of belonging.
Recognizing the transformative role of sports, the "Sport for Inclusion" project was designed to address the gaps in accessibility and inclusion for young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities. The project aimed to empower youth workers by equipping them with innovative methodologies and tools to integrate sports into youth work, creating inclusive environments where young people can thrive.
The central goal of the project was to harness the potential of sports as a tool for social inclusion, encouraging active participation among youth and fostering resilience, teamwork, and leadership. By focusing on the social dimensions of sports, the initiative sought to break down barriers, build intercultural understanding, and promote equal opportunities for all.

Objectives of the Project:

Equip the youth workers with various sport competencies, methods and tools which will increase the social inclusion and active participation of young people, focused on the ones with fewer opportunities.
The objectives of the training are to:
– Exchange good practices of youth work programmes and activities using different sports as methods and tools.
– Exchange good practices on local and national level regarding the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities.
– Improve the competencies of youth workers in organizing inclusive youth activities using creative sports methodology.
– Adopt and internalize inclusive sport methods in everyday youth work in different contexts.
– Promote and apply healthy lifestyle methods and approaches among the youth workers.
– Share, understand and learn how to cope with challenges in implementation of quality sport methods for inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities.
– Establish a network of youth workers dedicated to applying inclusive sports methods and promoting the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities.
– Develop plans for new local/national workshops and international projects with using sport methods for inclusion.

By implementing these objectives, the project aimed to create lasting impacts on both youth workers and young people, empowering them to challenge social exclusion and foster inclusive, cohesive communities.

Uygulama

The project began with an arrival and welcoming session, where participants were greeted with informal games and energizers. This allowed them to get comfortable and engage with the group, setting a positive tone for the week.

The 2021-2027 program's main points were explained in the session. Participants were quizzed on the program's details, with each team conducting a quiz to assess their knowledge. Any unclear points were identified, and additional explanations were provided.

Following this, the trainer gave a brief briefing on Youth-pass, explaining how they would deal with the 8 basic competencies in the evaluations. The importance of Youth-pass was emphasized and explained in detail during the session.

Following this, the trainer conducted a general introduction session, explaining the objectives of the project and the role of sports in promoting inclusion. Participants shared their expectations and were introduced to the methodology and structure of the activities.

An interactive activity titled "Who Are We?" involved participants introducing themselves creatively. This included sharing personal stories about their experiences with inclusion or exclusion in sports, fostering openness and empathy.

Participants engaged in a Yoga and Stretching Workshop to promote physical and mental well-being. This activity emphasized the importance of health and fitness as a foundation for participation in sports.

On the second day, the focus shifted to group building through outdoor sports activities. Participants were involved in specific exercises and challenges that required teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

The session "How Are We Going to Work?" introduced participants to the principles of non-formal education and collaborative learning. Key aspects of meaningful learning were discussed, helping participants reflect on their personal learning objectives.

Participants explored local realities of youth work in their countries through presentations. They shared challenges and strategies, providing diverse perspectives on the role of sports in inclusion.

A session on designing inclusive sports activities allowed participants to create activities aimed at fostering social cohesion. Small groups brainstormed and presented their ideas, which were later tested through role-playing scenarios.

Daily reflection groups were held at the end of each day. These self-facilitated discussions enabled participants to evaluate the day's activities, share insights, and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

A group bonding night was organized, featuring interactive games and cultural sharing. This strengthened relationships among participants and highlighted the role of intercultural dialogue in promoting inclusion.

On Day 4, participants took part in a thematic sports workshop, focusing on adapting games to include individuals with disabilities or other barriers. This activity encouraged creative thinking and empathy.

The "Create Your Own Project" session invited participants to ideate potential future Erasmus+ projects. Participants worked in groups to develop and present their proposals, incorporating the tools and knowledge gained during the week.

A team sports competition was held, emphasizing collaboration over competition. Mixed teams played a series of games, designed to demonstrate the principles of inclusive sports.

Participants reflected on the impact of sports on marginalized communities, discussing real-life examples and formulating strategies to implement these insights in their local contexts.

In the final dissemination planning activity, participants created concept maps identifying key messages, target audiences, and communication strategies. These plans were shared and refined as a group.

The project concluded with a farewell ceremony, where participants shared their learnings and received certificates recognizing their participation and achievements.

Participant Profile and Number:
Our project engaged 7 countries— Hungary, Italy, The Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Türkiye, Bulgaria and Portugal.
